Year: Winter 2022
Location: Milan, Italy
Collaboration: Defne Sendil

Type: Urban Design · Landscape · Neighborhood · Housing

Located in Milan’s Town Hall 8 district, Piazza Carlo Stuparich occupies a strategic urban position between QT8, San Siro, and CityLife. The currently vacant site faces the Allianz Cloud Arena and forms a critical edge along Viale Renato Serra, presenting an opportunity to repair and complete the surrounding urban fabric.

The project proposes a residential intervention composed of 42 housing units (one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments) integrated with 17 ground-floor commercial spaces. Rather than functioning as an isolated development, the design reconstructs the urban block through a contemporary reinterpretation of Milanese residential typologies.

Responding to the irregular geometry of the plot, the proposal establishes a modular grid system that organizes the housing volumes while generating shared courtyards and landscaped spaces. The ensemble forms a semi-enclosed residential complex that balances permeability and privacy, encouraging social interaction while maintaining a clear urban edge. Through this approach, the project mediates between neighborhood scale, housing typology, and public life.
