Falcone e Borsellino School Park

The project proposes a new prototype for school infrastructure in Milan, redefining the educational building as a hybrid public institution embedded within the urban fabric. Conceived as both a learning environment and a civic hub, the school operates beyond academic hours, transforming into a shared community space and active social infrastructure.

Developed through a multi-scalar approach — from national strategy to neighborhood intervention — the proposal responds to the broader renewal of Italy’s aging school buildings constructed in the 1960s and 1970s. Many of these prefabricated structures no longer meet seismic standards and require comprehensive reconstruction under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Environmental performance is central to the design. The building is conceived as a modular mass-timber system using prefabricated components to ensure construction efficiency, spatial flexibility, and reduced environmental impact. Through adaptable layouts and shared programs, the project establishes a resilient, sustainable model for future public schools in Milan
